Foundational Concepts

This a glossary of terms used in TempleDAO as part of its Governance structure.

Enclaves

TempleDAO is split into five “Enclaves”, which effectively subdivide the Discord into focused working groups or departments. Each specializes in particular functions which are explained in the next section. (See breakdown of enclaves in the Enclaves and Chambers section)

Chambers

Inside each Enclave exist “Chambers”. Chambers are where work takes place in TempleDAO, and they serve to provide finer granularity to the ongoing day-to-day work tasks. Chambers primarily exist as Discord channels and threads. Chambers are led by MCs (Masters of Ceremony).

Roles

Within each Enclave is a personnel hierarchy denoted by Roles. The higher a Templar rises in the ranks, the more trust, responsibility, and access they are given. Their Role title reflects their responsibilities or powers. (See breakdown in the Roles section)

Funding Council

A meeting held every Epoch where TempleDAO Masters, Initiates and MCs meet to plan and approve funding and spend for the previous and upcoming Epochs.

Epoch

An epoch is a time-boxed period when a team works to complete a set amount of work. Every contributor in TempleDAO is compensated based on the work they contributed each epoch

Discord Transparency

We have deeply customized our Discord server to support the way we work. All activity, project management and governance happens in Discord. We have customized naming conventions tied to viewing and editing permissions based on your role. (See the Discord Transparency section for further info)

Council of Elders

The council of elders is akin to a board of directors, deciding on high level strategic direction of Temple. It is made up of 5 members
